¡Vamos!

After housesitting for 2 weeks in Bakersfield, I was ready to leave. Not that I wasn’t enjoying her company but I love the road and most importantly, I want to get to my family in Arizona. I shopped at thrift stores, ate donuts, played with my hula hoop and drove everywhere. The average day was waking up at 7am and immediately starting the coffee and planing out the day, which consited of a few main points: walking the dogs in the morning and again at night.

I can now say I know what it feels like to be retired. I also played mini golf. HA!(Love it)

We headed to Santa Barbra yesterday to be with my cousin for a day, then to Ventura. Currently in Venice beach, where RVs are illegal(seriously, but only on certain streets) its beautiful here! We’re staying for a few days regardless.

a couple of hippies and an indian

After going to Esalen Institute (near Big Sur) to soak in their natural hot springs at 1am on Saturday, we waited til morning to continue on ol’ Highway 1 to Santa Maria. Our dear friend lives in Santa Maria and took us by surprise when he escorted us to his family’s cattle ranch, sitting on 300 acres. We explored the hills, bird listening, collecting feathers, making delicious meals over the fire, sun bathing, night hikes, making music, and being simple. I make a good urban cowgirl.20120208-200209.jpg

A bunch of Elephant seals doing their thing along the highway. its mating, birthing, and chill session I guess.

Here we GO!

As we continued on south to Monterey after sunset, the front tire started to shred. These tires are extremely old and we only changed the back ones so it was only a matter of time. Got towed to the tire store in Redwood, spent the night in the parking lot and was back on the road by 10am(now we’re rolling with 4 fresh tires). Played in Monterey till the evening and headed out to Big Sur. We posted up by a small general store for the night, got some beer and made dinner. Pretty much the best place to have stayed. The Adventure continues!

….And the Adventure begins. Heading South!

Our journey began leaving San Francisco and Oakland yesterday saying goodbye to family and friends. Our destination (for now) is to head as far south as New Mexico. We crossed the Bay Bridge to Highway 1 headed to Half Moon Bay, a little town about an hour south of San Francisco. We arrived in the afternoon, got some clam chowder at the Fish Market, explored Main St. and mobbed our bikes along the ocean. The sunset was rainbow sorbet and the beach alive. Day one was delightful. I’ll tell you later what happened after the sun rested and we decided to head to Big Sur. Not what we expected….20120202-223105.jpg
